Access Accessibility gives a rundown on its run in with Freedom Scientific, a big name in assisted technology as the manufacturer of JAWS (screen reader for the visually-impaired). Apparently, the company won’t provide transcripts of its podcasts.
Sure, we’d love for every podcast to have transcripts, but is that realistic?

Its the impatience of the deaf people not the so called ignorance by FS. They have been very supportive to our development and outreach projects.
I think the same was said about closed captions for TV shows. “Sure, we’d love for every TV show to have captions, but is that realistic?” In the 1980s, it wasn’t. Today, it is. Perhaps someday, it will be realistic to expect that all podcasts will have transcripts. It’s better to start now than later in encouraging transcripts to be a realistic expectation.
Richard; I think you missed Meryl’s point. She’s saying that an organization that is committed to providing accessibility should at least be aware of captions, and implementing them.
