More on DWTS and Sweet Nothing

Remember the 100th Episode celebration show on “Dancing With The Stars” is on Tuesday May 6. Marlee Matlin and other contestants are on “Dancing With The Stars” will appear on that show.
Reader Tokumbo writes, “Go to Amy Efron Cohen’s website to check out the bittersweet story about the true story on movie ‘Sweet Nothing in the Ear.’ Amy explains about how the idea come from that movie and the idea was coming from deaf actress whose her life is based on that movie.”
The video is in ASL. Anyone willing to sum up the video for us ASL-impaired folk?

  1. No takers yet?
I thought that story would be interesting, but I don’t read ASL well enough, and couldn’t gather it from the comments.

  2. Amy’s video was a snorer of epic proportions. It took her 10 minutes to reveal that she didn’t understand copyright laws very well.
    You didn’t miss nothin’.
There IS a reason why she doesn’t subtitle her vlogs, ya’know?
    :o)

    Paotie,
Why don’t you subtitle the video for us?

  3. Hello everyone,
This video will be subtitled/captioned as soon as possible. It is a 10 minute video and it requires a lot of time, for example one minute video equals to 1 hour of captioning (to make sure that the words aligns with the speed of signs.)
I ask you to please be patient until I make another release of the same video with captions.
    Thank you,
    Amy Cohen Efron

clearly, amy wanted her vlog to get out in a timely fashion… since her medium is sign language, why not post the original in her NATIVE language first? not unlike someone would do in french, german or spanish? — it stands to reason that would be her first expression? how many hearing blogs or vlogs do you criticize for not being subtitled? no wonder the CI community needs subtitles which is sad — given the natural, god given language of the deaf is VISUAL — sign language… but i suspect there will be subtitles soon… then YOU will have access!!!!!

I just asked what it was about — I never criticized Amy for choosing ASL. I simply made a joke that I wasn’t fluent in the language — not the other way around.
I agree that Amy should use ASL as that’s her first language. 10 minutes is also long for a personal video for sub-titling.

Paotie? what kind of spine do you have?
here’s a family, a deaf mother – hearing father… bore a hearing child who became deaf… the mother… an advocate and successful actress in the deaf community … the father who spoke to her womb to his child within.. the play was written based on this and the family — actress — and subject was completely buried in hollywood protocol. amy presents it and you say it is boring… i feel sad for you dude. you’re sad… period.
what kind of life do you have to weigh in — the way you did? you need prayer man!
